NVQs

Construction NVQs, Level 2 to Level 7

Work-based NVQs for people already doing the job, assessed from evidence of their real work. They help towards CSCS and CPCS cards. Available nationwide; Level 3 and above are assessed remotely by phone, email and online.

Is an NVQ the right route?

These NVQs recognise competence you already have on site. They are not college courses, apprenticeships or classroom training — there is no teaching, the assessor works from evidence of the job you do.

Right for you if

  • You already work in the trade or role and can show evidence of that work.
  • You need the qualification for a CSCS card, or to move from a red CPCS or NPORS card to the blue competent operator card.
  • Your employer wants the team’s experience formally recognised.

Not the right route if

  • You are new to the trade and need to learn it first.
  • You are looking for a City & Guilds college course or an apprenticeship.
  • Your trade is not in our list — for example heating, ventilating or ductwork. Email info@kvkgroup.co.uk before booking and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.

Level 2 is assessed in person. Depending on where the learner works, a travel charge may apply — we confirm it with you before the visit is booked and nothing extra is taken without your agreement. Doing more than one NVQ, or booking several learners? Email info@kvkgroup.co.uk and we will look at a better price.

After booking and payment, your assessor will contact the learner within 24–48 hours, excluding weekends and bank holidays.

Which card does each level lead to?

The card colour follows the NVQ level and the route you choose. Plant NVQs are Level 2 and follow CPCS categories, so they take you to a different blue card than trade NVQs. The final card also depends on passing the right CITB health, safety and environment test — we confirm the exact card with you before you book.

Level 2 — Blue card

Trade NVQs → CSCS blue Skilled Worker card. Plant NVQs → CPCS or NPORS blue Competent Operator card, upgrading the red card you already hold.

Level 3 — Gold card

Advanced craft and supervisory routes, including Occupational Work Supervision for the gold Supervisory card.

Level 4 — Gold card

Construction Site Supervision for the gold Supervisory card; Supervising Lifts supports the Lift Supervisor route.

Level 5 — Black card

Management-level routes; Controlling Lifting Operations – Planning Lifts is the Appointed Person qualification route.

Level 6 — Black card

Construction Site Management or Contracting Operations Management for the black Management card.

Level 7 — Black card

Construction Senior Management for the black Senior Management card.

Not sure which route applies to you or your workforce? Email info@kvkgroup.co.uk with the cards people currently hold and we will map the right NVQs.

CSCS, CPCS, NPORS and CITB are registered marks of their respective owners. Cards are issued by the scheme itself — KVK Group is an independent training and compliance service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by any of them.

How construction NVQ assessment works

In-person or remote assessment?

Level 2 is assessed in person at the learner’s workplace. Levels 3–7 are assessed remotely by phone, email and online, with no travel charge. Choose the qualification that matches the work you actually do; contact KVK if you need help choosing.

What does it cost?

The prices above are per qualification, excluding VAT. Your selected qualifications and the VAT-inclusive total are shown before payment. Any additional Level 2 travel charge is agreed separately before the visit.

When will the assessor contact me?

After booking and payment, the assessor contacts the learner within 24–48 hours, excluding weekends and bank holidays. A business invoice request is also available; assessment cannot start until payment is complete.

Choose your NVQ

Register a learner

1. Which NVQ?

Plant NVQs are Level 2 and follow CPCS categories — pick the option that matches the category on your CPCS red Trained Operator card; completing it upgrades you to the blue Competent Operator card. If your exact category is not listed, choose “I can't find my NVQ” and type it in.

2. Learner details

Date of birth and NI number are only used to register the learner with the awarding body and are kept private.

3. Where they work

We only call the manager if we can't reach the learner.

4. Your details (who is booking)
